Welcome to the City of Hopewell’s Geographic Information System (GIS) site.  GIS is a collection of computer hardware, software, and geographic data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. GIS is typically known as "a combination of layers of information about a place to give you a better understanding of that place. The layers of information combined depend upon your purpose.  Some examples include: trying to find the best location for a new store, analyzing environmental issues, viewing crimes in a city to detect a pattern, and these are just a couple of examples of the many uses of GIS.   In simple terms, GIS helps a person visualize data.

The City of Hopewell GIS Department is responsible for creating and maintaining spatial information for data analysis to support City departments.  The GIS Department also provides maps and data to citizens on a fee basis.

Currently, the GIS has over 75 data layers including aerial photographic images, demographic and public safety information, property ownership, tax, land use, zoning information, utility locations, roads, natural features, topography and many other man-made and environmental features with the ability to display, print and manipulate numerous layers of data.
