October 30, 2010 at 9 am has been selected for the 14th Annual Running of the City Point 5K River Run & Walk, a 5-kilometer USA Track and Field Certified Race. The run, which will begin on Poythress Street in downtown Hopewell at the SunTrust parking lot. The 5K course is flat, out and back, and includes a scenic run along the Appomattox River and passes several historic areas of City Point. It splits every mile and water is appropriately placed at 1 1/2 miles. The course ends in front of SunTrust Bank at the corner of Main and Poythress Streets.

Again this year we are having an age group for Children 12 & Under, and Teens 13 – 15. Also, a Senior Citizen age group for those “mature” walkers and runners age 60 – 64. Our oldest age bracket is 65 +.  Last year’s running of the race was record breaking with over 440 participants. Our goal is to have over 1,000 runners and walkers as we promote health and wellness.

The City Point 5K River Run & Walk will include a Kids Fun Run sponsored by John Randolph Foundation. Starting at 8:00 a.m., the Kids Fun Run is a one-mile run/walk created especially for children ages 12 and under. Children can register for the Kids Fun Run at no charge.

Cost: $15 if pre-registered by Oct. 26th, includes a long sleeve t- shirt,
$10 registration on race day but no t-shirt

This year we will be offering a seven-week training program provided by the YMCA of Greater Richmond. Choose between Thursday evening or Saturday morning! Course begins September 9th at 6:00pm (Thursday evening) or September 11th at 8:00am (Saturday morning) at Hopewell Community Center. Participants must be 12-years or older.
