A Criminal History Check is conducted yearly on all volunteer youth coaches plus Online Mandated Reporting required for all personnel working with youth.
SPRING FLING SKATEBOARD GET TOGETHER
All skateboarders let’s do a get together sponsored by “HOPEWELL RECREATION AND PARKS” and we will serve hotdogs and drinks.

The Hopewell Department of Recreation and Parks will be holding baseball and softball registration for youth ages 3 to 17 at the Hopewell Community Center. Proof of age plus parental signature are required. The following is a list of the leagues that are offered:
Blast ball (3-4).
Instructional T-ball League (5-6).
Boy’s Coached Pitch League (7-8).
Girl’s Knights of Columbus Coached Pitch League (7-8-9).
Boy’s Pee -Wee Baseball (9-10).
Girl’s Optimist Youth Softball (10-13).
Boy’s Youth Baseball (11-12).
Boy’s Recreation Baseball (13-15).
Girl’s Optimist Junior Softball (14-17).

OPTIMA FAMILY CARE BLAST BALL
The ideal entry level of play for youngsters who will go on to more advanced levels of baseball. Blast ball teaches the basics of t-ball and/or the fundamentals of hitting, running, and fielding while emphasizing teamwork and sportsmanship.
For Boys/Girls 3&4 years of age as of April 30, 2013.
Players will be notified by their coach by June 1st.

BASEBALL/SOFTBALL OPENING DAY
The Hopewell Department of Recreation and Parks will be holding Opening Day Ceremony to kick off the 2013 Youth Baseball/Softball Season on May 20, 2013 at Mathis Park. This will be a fun filled day with the introduction of players and coaches from Boy’s Youth Baseball, Pee -Wee Baseball, and Girl’s Optimist Youth Softball. We will also play several games that day. Come meet the players and coaches. The opening ceremony starts at 6:00 pm.
AQUAFINA – PITCH HIT & RUN COMPETITION
Aquafina Pitch, Hit, and Run Competition are for Boys and Girls 7-14 years old. This competition is judged on pitching, hitting, and running. See who has the best baseball skills in Hopewell.

MIXED VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

HORSESHOE TOURNAMENT
Ring it up at Hopewell’s Horseshoe Tournament. Open to any youth/adult/or senior citizen that wants to compete in a double elimination tournament to be held at Union Fort.
Who: Teenage division 13 - 18
Adult division to age 49
Senior Division which is 50 and up.
When: June 20, 2013.
Where: Union Fort on Appomattox Street.

Hopewell Adult Tennis League
The City of Hopewell, Department of Recreation and Parks will offer an Adult Tennis League. Applications will be made available starting the first week of May 2013.

We will have a Senior Division for those 50 and older.
Where: HCC.

HOPEWELL TENNIS TOURNAMENT
The City of Hopewell Department of Recreation and Parks will hold our annual tennis tournament. We invite youth, adults and our seniors who are 50 and up to participate. Awards will be plaques for the top two players in each division and an annual membership to the Hopewell Community Center.
When: Mon. July 8 to Aug. 2, 2013
Who: Youth division; Ladies Division to age 49 and Ladies Division age 50 and up;
Men’s Division to age 49 and Men’s Division age 50 and up.

ADULT “WEDNESDAY" GOLF LEAGUE
9-holes match play. Each team consists of two players. Teams may be made up of more than two players (many teams have three or four players due to members that may travel for their job or take vacations and are not available to play every week), but only two players are allowed to comprise a team during any match. Each week a team competes against another team and plays for points. Participants will need to provide their own clubs and must be aware of proper golf course etiquette prior to playing.

15TH ANNUAL CITY OF HOPEWELL/PAL’S/HOPEWELL RECEATION FOUNDATION GOLF TOURNAMENT
Ready for relaxing, fun-filled day of golf with three of your best friends? Hopewell Department of Recreation and Parks along with Hopewell Recreation Foundation and Police Activity League (PAL’S) will be sponsoring a Captain’s Choice Golf Tournament at Jordan Point Golf Club. Monies raised go back to support Youth Athletics.

STRICTLY SOCCER YOUTH SOCCER CLINIC
Brad Dalton and his Hopewell High School Soccer Staff want to teach players ages 4 and up the basic way to play soccer by conducting a one-day mini-clinic sponsored by Strictly Soccer of Richmond.

YOUTH FOOTBALL CLINIC
Ricky Irby and his Hopewell High School Football Staff want to teach the fundamentals of football in a two-day training clinic for kids 8 to 18 years old. The first day of the clinic will be for youth 12 and under while the second day is for 13 and up.

SIXTEENTH ANNUAL CITY POINT 5K RUN
Held the last Saturday in October, the 17th Annual Running of the City Point 5K River Run and Walk, a 5-kilometer; USA Track and Field certified race. The run, which will begin and end at John Randolph Foundation, is a flat out and back scenic run along the Appomattox River and passes several historic areas of City Point. Last year’s running of the race was record breaking with over 1000 participants.
