The Department of Recreation and Parks offers a variety of sports programs for a wide range of ages and abilities.  Check out one of our sports programs today and have fun while staying active!
 

Midnight Basketball March Madness

For ages 13-18.  Show off your skills to see who is the best baller in town! This event will feature a variety of skills competitions and a 3-on-3 tournament.  Participants will be divided into age categories based on registration totals.  Prizes and refreshments will be provided. 
 
ADVANCED REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.  A completed registration form must be submitted by March 11 with parent/guardian signature.

Event guidelines:
-Spectators under the age of 18 will not be admitted without adult supervision
-Participants will not be released from the program without the presence of an adult or guardian, as per curfew laws
 

Baseball/Softball Registration is Now Open!

Registration Information
Baseball/softball registration opens February 1. Registration will remain open until all team spaces are filled or until the beginning of the season. Late registration will be granted, if possible, on a case-by-case basis. The Department of Recreation and Parks reserves the right to close registration at any time and for any reason. Please register early!
 
Non-resident registration:  The Department of Recreation and Parks will accept non-resident registration for Blast Ball, Tee Ball, and Coach Pitch.  Non-resident registration will not be accepted for Dixie baseball or softball leagues.  Only those players who live within the Hopewell league boundary will be permitted to register.  The Hopewell boundary is defined by the city limits of Hopewell and also includes the portion of Enon (Chesterfield) bordered by the Appomattox River, Route 10 and I-295.  Please see map for more informaiton.

Spring Soccer Information

Registration for spring soccer is now closed. 
 
Equipment Information
Players will be provided jerseys and matching socks.  Players will need to provide their own black shorts, shin guards, and appropriate footwear.  Soccer cleats are recommended but tennis shoes will be permitted.  Only cleats with molded plastic studs will be permitted.  Screw-in cleats and/or metal studs are prohibited for all ages. 
 
Guidelines for player equipment during games:
-Players should have jerseys tucked in at all times during the game.
-Players will not be permitted to wear any jewelry or accesories during games (includes earrings, bracelets, necklaces, hair beads, rings, etc.) Exceptions for medical jewelry will be permitted.
-If a player is required to wear a hard cast during a game, the cast must be covered in foam padding and taped.  Inspection by the referee will be required before each match.
-Long sleeve shirts are allowed under jerseys.  Shirts should be black in color and may not have a hood or drawstrings for player safety.
-Long black sweatpants or athletic pants will be permitted instead of shorts for cold days.  Sh0rts are not required above pants. Pant legs will need to be pulled up to show sock color.
-Wire rim frames will not be permitted for participants needing glasses.  Sports frames or plastic frames are required.

-U6 Draft, March 7, 6 p.m.
-U9 Draft, March 7, 7 p.m.
-U13 Draft, March 8, 6 p.m.
-Coaches contact players, March 8-13
-Practices begin, March 14
-Preschool soccer begins March 19
 
Game schedule TBD.  Schedules will distributed by coaches at practice.
 
All games will be played at Atwater Soccer Complex on Saturdays.  Make-up games may be played on weekdays, if necessary.

Volunteer Coaches Needed

Youth sports programs benefit young athletes in a variety of ways. These programs are made possible by the countless volunteer coaches that give thier time and effort throughout the year. Give back to your community today by helping shape the future of young athletes. All volunteer coaches must pass a background check before participating in any league. Volunteer head coaches are entitled to a free annual membership at the Hopewell Community Center.
